Yes, that’s right! A day dedicated to the pig. So why celebrate this barnyard animal?

Though pigs usually get an evil rap, they are actually very intelligent animals.  Rave (who started national Pig Day in 1972) states that pigs are one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals. They can even be taught tricks! Who’s man’s best friend now?

National Pig Day usually sees its version of pig parties – which have included pink punch, pork snacks, BBQ pork sandwiches, and bacon breakfasts to honor our pigs!  Some girls even wear their hair in pigtails for the day.

A few folks take a different approach by not eating pork on March 1^st.  Those who have a pet pig will treat their pig to a piggy buffet.  Whether the day is meant to give pigs a break or appreciate the goodness we get from eating them is left open.

So why don’t you mark the day? Whether you think these animals are cute or are delicious, celebrate March 1^st by honoring the day of the pig. Let them hog the spotlight for this one day.
